Your Questions, Answered
-
Learn to Row is designed specifically for beginners. You'll learn alongside a small group of first-time rowers, and our certified instructors will guide you through every step of the process.
-
Absolutely. Rowing is a lifelong sport, and many people begin rowing later in life. Our club includes members in their 50s and 60s who continue to row regularly. Because rowing is low impact and scalable to different fitness levels, it's an excellent activity for many adults.
-
Yes. All participants must be able to swim and self-certify that they are comfortable in the water. Capsizing is rare when proper safety procedures are followed, but your safety is always our highest priority.
-
Wear comfortable athletic clothing that's easy to move in. A close-fitting T-shirt with shorts or leggings works well.
Shoes stay on the dock. In the boat, your feet will be secured using sandals attached to the shell, so many people prefer to wear socks for comfort.

Please bring:
A plastic or metal water bottle (no glass please)
Sunglasses
Sunscreen or other sun protection

After completing the course, you’re eligible to become a member of the Rowing Club of Northwest Arkansas.
New members begin with our Step Up program, which is included in club membership. With guidance from certified coaches, you’ll continue building your skills and gaining experience before joining regular club crews. Sculling lessons are also available to club members for an additional fee.
Group practice schedules vary throughout the year to align with the season and the needs of each crew. As you continue developing your skills, many rowers find that practicing 2–3 times a week is helpful.
